Okay folks. As you know I run around like a maniac and don't sleep much and am just sort of all over the place. If you didn't pick up on it I sort of abuse the crap out of my body. I've realized that the more I take care of myself the more energy I have and the better I feel and the more I get done, which all seems like positive thing to me. As annoying and inconvenient as eating healthy (gluten free in my case) seems the more you do it the more you figure out how to make it work and it becomes second nature.
Which brings me to my next point... as a design student I don't sleep a lot, I obviously consume large amounts of coffee and pop on a daily basis and well it's not good. Don't worry I'm not giving up coffee --you can put your heart back in your chest now-- however, I am going to quit drinking pop, soda, coke, what ever your lingo I'm quitting it. Lets look at some reasons why pop is terrible for you.
Reasons to not drink [insert fizzy caffeinated surgary beverage name here]:
- Weight Gain: Drinking one can of soda a day can add more than 1 pound of weight gain every month. A single 12-ounce can of pop has as much as 13 teaspoons of sugar in the form of high-fructose corn syrup. A can of Coca-Cola Classic will take about 30 minutes to walk off. Diet soda? Forget about it. It is just as likely to cause weight gain as regular, or even more. Plus there’s the added health risk.
-No Nutritional Value: Sodas have no vitamins or minerals and are just empty calories. These empty calories suppress your appetite for healthy food. And chances are if you are drinking soda to quench your thirst, you are drinking less water which is what your body really needs.
- Less water intake: This is a personal problem for me. A lot of times I'll grab a pop because it has caffeine in it. I recently went about 4 days without drinkinG a single glass of water. After realizing this i immediately grabbed a glass, the first sip my whole body just relaxed and was like WHAT IS THIS LIQUID YOU'RE GIVING ME AND WHY HAVE YOU BEEN DEPRIVING ME OF THIS.
- Bone loss: While scientists debate the exact reason, most agree that drinking soda is bad for our bones and deters us from having something healthier like a glass of milk or water. Still, some believe the phosphoric acid in sodas may lead to osteoporosis.
- Brain problems: Heavy soft drink consumption can interfere with the body’s metabolization of iron, which could mean diminished nerve impulse transmission. More soda, less sensation.
