NEWS!
Okay. I just finished my final project and turned in a final and 2 papers. I have about an hour before the newsy peeps come to my class for the project we did and then a final after that which I haven't really studied for. So in my free time I thought I'd tell you all my awesome news. I don't know if you'll classify this as awesome, but I do. So next fall I was lucky enough to be chosen into be in a "cotton class". Since I haven't had the pattern making class (also taking patterns 1 next fall) I had to be chosen by an upper class men to be their partner. Why would they need a partner you ask? BECAUSE WE'RE GOING TO DESIGN AND PRODUCE OUR OWN LINE. yep. you read that right. I get to design my own line. The girl I'm partnered with told me she wanted someone who was more design orientated because she's more technical so I'm going to be designing all summer and we're going to go through and pick the ones we like. Also, since it's a sponsored class it's only offered pretty much this one time. We also are going to be flown to North Carolina and to Lubbock to meet people and see how things work on their end. We also get to show our lines at the end of the semester and there will be a winner and there's also a denim competition and if you win that it gets to be mass produced and you get flown to Guatemala to view the whole process. I saw this opportunity and pretty much told my teacher I HAD to be in this class, even if I was just doing grunt work for a senior. I'd even stand in the back of the class and just watch. Luckily I got in and I won't have to be removed from the classroom multiple times. My advice to you is if you see an opportunity go for it. Set up a time to meet with who ever and inform them that you're going to do this it's just a matter of how they're going to let you. Don't give up. This industry is all about who you know and the opportunities you're presented with. Networking is huge so you just have to keep pushing.
