What happens when I'm on x-mas break you ask? Well, obviously not updating the lovely blog as much as I should. I have been knitting. More knitting than you could even knit your mind around. I'm not sure what it was really, one minute I was just headed to Michaels to kill some time. Next thing I know I realize the store wide clearance applies to yarn. I won't lie, when I realized this my feet left the ground. I was suddenly doing an awkward dance/jump/armwave/spin-in-circles move that I usually only do on Christmas morning. Apparently my usual foot-stomping/awkward-laugh/hand-clap wasn't enough for this joyous occasion.
I'm a college student. Let my rephrase, I'm a fashion student in college. Which means all money goes to art supplies, food, fabric, and coffee... I don't go out of my way ever to look for or buy yarn. However, the yarn sale was too good to pass up. I bought a rediculous amount of yarn and ever since I've been working on a weird form of knitting callus on my fingers. Much like guitar players get (obviously assuming, not musically talented).
You might be curious as to why I'm informing you of all of this goodness. I promise you, this rant has a purpose. The purpose is to tell you about my most prized website find of the decade. Now I don't actually give out awards for this, but if I did, you'd pick up the phone to vote for this baby. The site you ask? www.ravelry.com
BUT TEAGAN! WHAT THE HECK IS RAVELRY.COM? Well, my beautiful readers I am glad you asked. It's the most wonderful site for knitters/crocheters. Say you need a pattern, or you have some random yarn you'd like to use. You just go to this bad boy and type in what you have or what you'd like to make. Modify the search to exactly what you have. Down to the age, gender, difficulty, fit, needles size, weight of yarn. You name it you can narrow it. It's wonderful. WHAT! IT GETS BETTER? Why yes, it does. Almost all of the patterns have pictures and lots of them of the project when it's done so you can literally browse hundreds of pictures to find the cutest, most wonderful item. OH, and did I mention... most of them are for FREE, yes, FREE.
For example. I'm currently knitting a hat for my friend who recently left for his first deployment. What did I find, a soldier guard hat, perfect. I'd also like to say this site has turned me into one of those weird ladies who busts out her knitting out of her bag at random moments of the day when hands are free for some knitting. Tonight was the biggest rivalry for my old highschool in basketball. My dad being a coach I went to support him. What did I bring? My knitting. It was great, I'm to the point where I can have a full conversation while keeping track of stitches in my head. Though I drew awkward attention to myself, which I am not a fan of, I had some interesting conversations with some lovelies about knitting. Which they all thought was insanely "cool" that I was just hanging out knitting. And I am now picking up my BEAUTIFUL cousin from school on Thursday and teaching her to knit. Then, figuring out when I'm going to teach my other BEAUTIFUL cousin my skillz. I'm all kinds of excited.
Lesson of the day. Go to www.ravelry.com and knit something! It's super easy if you don't know how. I taught myself off of youtube when I was in 8th grade and the videos are WAY better than they used to be. So knit something and let me know how it turns out my pretties!
